Unbelievable Show!

10/14/2010

Caught Patti Smith and Elvis Costello at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in the park, took a trip to celebrate a family birthday, and came home to shoot an industrial as an investment banker who is extremely happy with his enterprise software solution. Came home from the shoot, took a shower, and went to see Robin Williams live at the Berkely Rep. One of a series of three benefit shows for local causes. I have NEVER laughed so hard or so continuously. I thought I was going to have health issues. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

Annette Bohle's Tacos Pescados has hit the web.

Five crazy minutes of lost love, a philandering drunkard, Mexican food, plenty of drinking, and a rabbit.  I play several roles, all from behind a sizeable horseshoe moustache.

That's me in the picture with Nanishka Camberos, who appears along with Rowan Brooks, Anya Prinz, Sina Eiden, Ryan Huffman, Quinne, Erin, Cyrus Paul Ghazizadeh, Amy McCrary, and a dog named Hank.

Written by Annette with Quinne Brown, and directed by Quinne and Erin Coker.  I co-wrote the song with Annette and Marco Villalobos.  Marco and I recorded the song with Willy Seekamp at Beast of Baden Studios.

May the farce be with you.

This was fun.  Paintball and comedy are natural partners.  Director Dan Pavlik and his cast and crew were awesome.  Fellow paintballer Mark Flores' dog Sadie stole the show.  Lots of laughs.  Should be pretty funny flick; look for it next year.

More good fun with old tunes tweaked to promote new technologies.  Look for the GTCA viral video, coming soon.  This stuff is a total blast!  I'm the pirate.

Rose Leaves Clips

11/14/2008

Studio 300 Theatre has posted some clips from the three recent shows.  The first part of the clip assemblage is from A Bowl of Rose Leaves and features a couple of quick shots of yours truly.  Whoo-hoo!

That's it for rehearsal.  Here we go.  We open this Friday and run through August 30th.  This is an intimate space with only 30 seats.  Get your tickets now at this link to brownpapertickets.com.

Working with Nick Scoggin, Gail Fenton, Taylor Meritt, and Vlad Sayenko has been unspeakably good.  Kudos and thanks to our director Shari Carlson, our costume and makeup designer Issei Liu, and to Tonya Foster and everybody at Imaginative Productions.

You can check out my original blog entry on the play for more info.  Just come see it.  I won't be sorry!

Update on 7/17:  We had our in-house preview last night.  We stumbled a little, saved each other well, had some technical difficulties, found some stuff to tighten up.  All what you want and expect in an in-house preview (or final dress rehearsal, basically).  Tonight is the public preview, Friday the real opening, and then a Saturday show before a glorious four days off to ready for the next wave.

The work has is good.  The relationships are there.  It's funny.  Can't wait to see how it takes off and what more there is to discover in its depths.

Show's End

04/28/2008

Still glowing from The Good Doctor, but am ready for the postpartum letdown.  Fortunately, I have a busy week including a shoot on the local indie feature, Moonlight Sonata, and an audition for another feature this Saturday.

Closing night of TGD  brought in 135 people, breaking all prior attendance records for the Calvary Theater Group.  What a rush.  During our extended curtain call where appreciation was given to our good technical folk, I took the opportunity to simply bathe my instrument in the presence of all these people, with nothing further to do.  It was sort of like being a fly on the wall in the middle of it all, a long, personal goodbye, moments onstage without expectation.

The Good Doctor

02/16/2008

Time to hit the stage.  I was recently cast in a production of Neil Simon's collection of Chekovian comedy sketches.  Traditionally, "The Good Doctor" is cast with five actors and actresses who each play multiple roles.  This production, produced by Barb Fatum and directed by Rick Homan at the Calvary Theater Group in San Francisco, will use about sixteen of us.  I've got three roles spread throughout the play.

The play opens April 18 for a short, five-show run, ending on April 26 (two sets of Friday/Saturday 8pm shows, and a matinee on Sunday the 20th at 2pm).  More information about tickets forthcoming.

It's a small house with 49 seats and a great chance to see Simon's homage to Chekov's lighter side.

Standing Up

12/06/2007

I started taking a standup class at the San Francisco Comedy College.  Kurtis Matthews has built a pretty amazing institution, complete with a comedy club that's fourteen feet away from the classroom.  Really.  There's three open mics a week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday) and, as a current student, you get stage time.

Part of the training attitude here is, just get up there and feel comfortable with an audience.  Feel the silence.  Develop a relationship.  Go up without material.  Face the fear.  Here's a mic, stage, lights, audience, go!

What a rush.  I got on for maybe two minutes playing to a crowd of maybe ten, but I got some laughs and had some fun and took the first step toward having an act:  getting up on stage and trying it out.

More good times to come.
