This was fun.  Paintball and comedy are natural partners.  Director Dan Pavlik and his cast and crew were awesome.  Fellow paintballer Mark Flores' dog Sadie stole the show.  Lots of laughs.  Should be pretty funny flick; look for it next year.

I am happily attached to this extremely cool indie comedy, Nominated.  Dan Pavlik, first time feature director, is a gem.  The script is laugh-out-loud off the page.  Carl Lumbly and Brian Degan Scott top the bill; my good friends Quinne Brown and Sina Eiden are also involved.  Shoot slated for September.

Variety published a review of Canary this week.

More good fun with old tunes tweaked to promote new technologies.  Look for the GTCA viral video, coming soon.  This stuff is a total blast!  I'm the pirate.

Moonlight Sonata

11/01/2008

I shot a day on Celik Kayalar's feature Moonlight Sonata this past May.  Festival submissions and the hunt for distribution have commenced.  I have one scene with one of the leads.  Check out the trailer.  No, I am not in the trailer, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what's up.  Nice trailer, Celik!

I'm learning that this actor's life has interesting rhythms.  Sometimes you go without work for a while.  You continue to market, develop your craft, care for yourself, learn new things, but it can seem like "nothing" is going on.  Then a project you shot what seems like a million years ago comes to life out of postproduction and there's this whole other ride.  In live theatre, there's your audience reaction every night, staring you in the face, like a flash flood.  On camera, it's more like a stealthy, forgotten glacier that sneaks up on you and bears you away.

Canary Juice

Canary, a feature project I shot a couple of days on over the last year, has received one and then another review prior to release.

I am so excited about this incredible film.  Is it science fiction?  Sort of, but in the present day and world.  Is it dystopian?  That depends on what you think hope is and where you can mine it.

A huge ensemble cast wrangled and inspired by Alejandro Adams, a true pleasure to work with and one of the most engaged filmmakers I've met.

I appear as a...well, you'll see.  Watch for a release date next spring.

Long Time No Blog

Wow, lots to catch up on.

Existence is constantly renewing itself.  Stepping back into a stream after being out of it fascinates anew.

Bowl of Rose Leaves closed at the end of August after a successful run.  What a team.  What an experience.

Two weeks later, I got married.  I was the male lead and co-director and co-producer.  We pulled off a fantastic show with much help and support from all directions.  Truly fantastic.

After a sweet chunk of time to ourselves, it's back into the glorious world.  Lots of theories about what happens to jobs for actors in an economic downturn.  The "word" is that it is a slow time, but then some spend more on advertising when buyers are harder to get.  Auditions have not dried up for me, but they are not raining from the sky either.  On we go.

Got Rights?

Check out an educational video I shot last year for Muslim Advocates.  I play an FBI agent.  The video shows people how to protect themselves and their families if inappropriately and aggressively questioned by law enforcement.  Ethnic profiling, how to respond to a knock-and-talk, airport issues, etc., are all covered.

Also, it showcases my shorter hair and goateed look, now defunct.  One for the archives!  It's something like 10 minutes; I'm in the first half.  Enjoy!  And remember:  they need a warrant.

You asked for it, people, and you got it.  More theatre!  I’ve been cast in a Studio 300 Theatre production of Fred Smith’s “A Bowl of Rose Leaves,” directed by Tonya Foster and Shari Carlson.

Family blowouts and reconciliations, evisceration of the art world, delerious hijinks, plenty of drinking, and a heartfelt return to true purposes and desires.  This will be the first professional production of this play, in an intimate space just off Union Square, starring Nick Scoggin with Gail Fenton, Taylor Meritt, myself, and Vlad Sayenko.

The show opens July 17 and runs through August 30.  That’s Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in July, but only Fridays and Saturdays in August.  Tickets and location information are available at brownpapertickets.

If you care to use a garage, I’ve found the Sutter-Stockton to be economical and conveniently located in relation to the theatre.

It's a small venue of about 30 seats, so especially if you are scheming to bring a group (scheme away!), get your tickets early and often.  Hope to see you there!

Time to party like it's 1976.  This web commercial is going viral on youtube.  I'm on the interwebs and stuff.  Check it out.
